Unsolved Crimes
| 2/20/2008 - Home Invasion in Valrico!! Suspects still at large!! | On February 20, 2008, at approximately 11:10 am, an unknown black male suspect knocked on the victims` front door of their home located in the 4200 block of Balington Drive in Valrico, FL. The female victim answered the door and was pepper sprayed by the suspect, thus enabling the suspect and two other unknown black male suspects to gain entry into the home.
The suspects, once inside the home, attacked the female victim`s husband, who is wheelchair bound, striking him with a chair and knocking him out of his wheelchair. The female victim was able to escape the home and run to a neighbor`s residence for assistance. The suspects then immediately fled the residence in a two door, late model vehicle, gray in color with tinted windows.
Suspect #1 is described as a B/M. 18-20 years of age, 5`7" - 5`8", 155-160 lbs., medium build, medium complexion, a short black afro, and was last seen wearing a brown and beige checkered long-sleeved shirt and blue jeans. A composite of the suspect is pictured here. Suspect #2 is described as a B/M, 21-23 years of age, 5`9" - 5`10", 160-165 lbs, short cropped hair, a thin, full beard, and was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt, baggy blue jeans, and white tennis shoes with a blue stripe. (The victims were unable to describe the third B/M suspect)

Edenfield. Tomorrow, Friday, February 1, 2008, will mark the eleventh (11th) anniversary of the murder of Steven Edenfield. On February 1, 1997, at approximately 1:00 am, the victim was attacked and stabbed to death in his apartment located at 5820 N. Church Avenue in Tampa. Prior to the attack, he had been seen in the company of an unknown white male who was driving a dark colored vehicle.

| | 1/12/2008 - 8TH ANNIVERSARY OF MURDER; CASE STILL UNSOLVED | Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is offering a reward of up to $1000 for information that leads to the identification and arrest of the suspects responsible for the murder of 22 year old Michael Watkins. Saturday, January 12, 2007, will mark the eighth (8th) anniversary of the murder of Michael Watkins. On January 12, 2000, at approximately 3:00 am, the victim was leaving the Apollo Nightclub on North 40th Street in Tampa when at least two unknown suspects began shooting at him in the parking lot. The victim subsequently died from his gunshot wounds. The photograph is of the victim.

| | 12/14/2007 - Residential Burglary Suspect(s) Sought!!!!! | Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to the identification and arrest of the unknown suspect(s) who is/are responsible for committing ten residential burglaries and attempting to commit two others in the Country Chase Subdivision in northwest Hillsborough County. The burglaries occurred between December 14, 2007, and December 18, 2007. On December 14, 2007, the suspects attempted to break into two homes located in the 12000 block of Rustic View court. On December 17, 2007, the suspects broke into five homes located in 8500-8600 blocks of Tidal Bay Lane, and on December 18, 2007, five homes were broken into on the 12000 block of Stone Crossing Circle. The burglaries occurred at night while the residents were home, but there were no confrontations. In each case, the suspects were able to enter each home’s lanai area and then entered the homes via unlocked sliding glass doors.

| | 11/1/2007 - Grand Theft at Gibsonton Circle K | Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is offering a reward of up to $1000 for information that leads to the identification and arrest of the unknown suspect who is responsible stealing over $900 worth of cigarettes from the Circle K Store located at 11401 U.S. Highway 301 in Gibsonton, FL. On November 1, 2007, at 4:52 am, the suspect entered the store as the store clerk stepped away from the back of the checkout counter. The suspect then walked behind the counter and removed a cardboard box containing 30 cartons of cigarettes.
The unknown suspect is described as a Caucasian male, 35-45 years of age, 5’7” – 6’, 150-175 lbs., medium build, short brown hair, and was last seen wearing a blue, long sleeve shirt. The suspect fled the scene in an unknown make, white pickup truck with three other Caucasian males northbound on U.S. Highway 301. | | 10/13/2007 - Quick Change Scam Artist "Short Changes" Clerk!!! | Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to the identification and arrest of the unknown suspect who scammed approximately $138 from a clerk at the Hampton Inn located at 8210 Hidden River Parkway in North Tampa. On October 13, 2007, at approximately 6:35 pm, the suspect approached the hotel clerk and requested that she make change for a large bill. After a series of money exchanges back and forth, which was done with for the sole purpose of confusing the victim, the suspect was able to scam $138 from the clerk. The incident was caught on the hotel’s surveillance system.
Detectives from the Tampa Police Department are concerned that there may be other victims of this suspect that may not even realize that they were victimized. | | 8/15/2007 - Burglars Attack Elderly Resident | Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is offering a reward of up to $1000 for information that leads to the arrest(s) of the unknown suspects responsible for burglarizing a home located at 6713 Collins Spring Cove in Riverview. On August 15, 2007, two unknown suspects were seen inside the residence. The suspects were confronted by the 72 year old neighbor who was watching over the residence while the homeowners were out of town. The suspects then struck the victim and threw him to the ground. The suspects fled the scene in an older model vehicle, possibly a Pontiac 4 dr, dark blue with a partial tag of MVG. A witness described the vehicle as having faded paint and it rattled very loudly when in idle. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment for the injuries sustained in the attack.
Suspect #1 was described a black male. 25-30 years old, 6’0” – 6’ 3”, 200 lbs, medium build, short hair, no facial hair. Suspect #2 is described as a black female, 25 - 30 years old, 5’6”, 130 lbs, black hair with red streaks. | | 8/13/2007 - Colonial Bank in Brandon Robbed! Suspects Still At Large! | Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is offering a reward of up to $1000 for information that leads to the arrest(s) of the unknown suspects responsible for robbing the Colonial Bank located at 1707 S. Parsons Avenue in Brandon on Monday, August 13, 2007, at 9:02 am. Two unknown black males and a black female entered the bank armed with handguns and demanded money. The suspects fled in a stolen 1997 Plymouth, which was spotted by HCSO patrol deputies. The vehicle and two handguns were recovered by deputies. One of the suspects, Steven Brown, was arrested by deputies, but the two other suspects escaped.
Suspect #1 is described as a black male, 17-20 years old, 5’10” – 6’ 0”, 150-160 lbs, and was last seen wearing a dark colored long-sleeved sweatshirt, a white shirt underneath the sweatshirt, black pants, and black shoes. Suspect #2 is described as a black female, 17-20 years old, 5’3” – 5’5”, 220-250 lbs, black hair, and was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt with “NIKE” on the front, black pants, and yellow framed sunglasses.

| | 7/13/2007 - Detectives Seek Help in Shooting Death | Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is offering a reward of up to $1000 for information that leads to the arrest of the unknown suspect(s) who shot and killed 21 year old Abel Hernandez Lopez. On July 13, 2007, at approximately 11:41 pm, Abel Hernandez Lopez was shot and killed at the Palm Breeze Apartments in the area of Palm River Road and 78th Street in Tampa. Witnesses indicate that individuals who are of Mexican heritage are being targeted as victims of robbery and violence on a regular basis in this apartment complex. These events are occurring on the weekend after the victims have received their weekly paycheck in cash. Many of the victims are not reporting the crimes to law enforcement out of fear of being deported. The intent of law enforcement in this investigation is to obtain information that may help solve the murder of Abel Hernandez Lopez, and will not involve the investigation of violations of the immigration laws. Homicide detectives are looking for information regarding this death and nothing more. | | 6/9/2007 - INFORMATION NEEDED IN FATAL HIT-N-RUN CASE!! | Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to the identification and arrest of the driver responsible for the hit-n-run death of 20 year old Enrique Grimaldo. On June 9, 2007, between 5:00 am and 5:55 am, the victim was walking north on West Lake Drive, south of Ruth Morris Road in Wimauma. Grimaldo was struck by an unknown, northbound vehicle, which fled the scene. The victim, who was already deceased, was subsequently run over by a second vehicle, which was later identified and located by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. No charges were brought against the driver of the second vehicle. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with any information regarding this case to contact Det. | | 4/18/2007 - VICTIM OF SCAM ROBBED AT GUN POINT - UPDATE!!!!! | May 21, 2007 - Additional Information Regarding a Third Suspect!
Tampa Police detectives have discovered a third, unknown suspect who they believe was involved in this crime. Tampa Police detectives are asking for assistance from the public in identifying and locating an unknown, black female who was last seen driving a newer model, Chevrolet Impala, gray in color. Police are still looking for the the two, unknown black male suspects described below.
On Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at 10:41 am, an elderly victim was approached by an unknown black male suspect, referred to as Suspect #1, as the victim left the Publix store located at 2724 W. Hillsborough Avenue in Tampa. Suspect #1 told the victim he was from South Africa, and that he had a large sum of money he needed to donate to a “well established Christian” before he could return home. Suspect #1 told the victim once he proved he was well established, the suspect would give him $20,000 in cash. All the victim had to do was show the suspect $30,000 in cash to prove he was well established, and the victim agreed.
The victim then drove Suspect #1 to a Burger King located at W. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and N. Armenia Avenue under the premise that Suspect #1 needed to use the restroom. When they arrived, the two had lunch and met with a second, unknown black male, referred to as Suspect #2. Suspect #2, seemingly selected at random by Suspect #1, posed as another person who was going receive a reward similar to the victim’s.
During the course of the offense, Suspect #2 produced a sum of money he alleged to be $30,000 and presented it to Suspect #1. Suspect #1 then gave Suspect #2 a sum of money he represented to be $10,000 as his reward. Both suspects then accompanied the victim to several local banks to obtain his $30,000 worth of “good faith.” After the victim obtained his $30,000 in cash, both suspects forced him to surrender it at gunpoint. The suspects released the victim unharmed near the intersection of N. Howard Avenue North at North A Street.
Suspect #1 is described as a black male, 45 – 50 years of age, 5’10”, medium build, short graying hair, medium complexion, and was last seen wearing a white jacket, dress shirt, tie, gray slacks, was carrying a small, dark colored portfolio, and spoke with an accent described by the victim as “South African”. Suspect #1 is described as a black male, 45-50 years of age, 5’10”, very large build, short black hair, dark complexion, had moles or other marks on his cheeks, and was last seen wearing blue pants, a blue shirt, a tie, and had a large ring on the first finger of his left hand.

| | 4/12/2007 - Islamic Education Center Victim of Arson | On Thursday, April 12, 2007, at approximately 10:00am, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire at the Islamic Education Center of Tampa located at 6450 Rockpointe Drive in North Tampa. Investigators say the fire began after someone poured a flammable liquid in and around a broken window. No one was injured and the fire was contained to one room.
The Division of State Fire Marshal, Bureau of Fire and Arson Investigations, is working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and Hillsborough County Fire Rescue to determine who started the blaze, which has now been ruled arson.

| | 4/8/2007 - El Noa Noa Store Robbed! | | Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is offering a reward of up to $1000 for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect who robbed the El Noa Noa, a Latin store that also serves as a check cashing establishment located at 4215 N. Armenia Avenue in Tampa. The store was robbed by an unknown, Hispanic male on Sunday, April 8, 2007, at 9:45 P.M. Surveillance video shows the suspect walking into the store just before 10:00 pm. Once inside, he pretended to to shop until the clerk entered the secure check cashing area. As the door was closing behind the clerk, the suspect grabbed her and pushing his way inside the secure area. The suspect threatened to shoot the clerk if she did not give him the money and checks. The suspect fled the store with an undisclosed amount of money in a blue pick up truck, possibly a Ford Ranger with dark tinted windows. The suspect is described as a white, Hispanic male, 45-50 years old, heavy build, and balding.

| | 3/28/2007 - VERIZON OFFERS $10,000 REWARD | | Between February 19 and March 20, 2007, Verizon Communications, Inc. has been the victim of several thefts of telecommunications equipment, suffering losses in excess of $50,000. Between February 19 and March 20, 2007, there have been ten incidents in which stainless steel repeater housing lids have been stolen. These lids are designed to weather proof the communications equipment in the housings, which are typically affixed to telephone poles. Between February 14 and March 18, 2007, there have been seven reported incidents of stolen surge protection modules. The theft of one of these modules immediately causes phone service outages to customers, and takes several hours for Verizon to repair. These thefts are of great concern to public safety because customers affected by service outages would be unable to call 9-1-1 in case of an emergency.
Verizon Communications, Inc. is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest and prosecution of any person who is responsible for the theft of Verizon property and/or is responsible for the sale or purchase of known, stolen Verizon property.
